  1.   Yonkers –General Alarm Fire 100 Caryl Ave (1-25-05)
A massive fire gutted a 6-story apartment building, taking the life of one occupant and leaving 150 residents homeless. The Yonkers Fire Department rescued dozens of residents from hallways, apartments and fire escapes.

  2.    Mount Kisco – Yeshiva Fire (4-23-05)
100 people were left homeless after a fire destroyed a 2-story Yeshiva building. The fire began in a large oven that was used to cook matzo and other food in preparation for Passover.

  3.   Yonkers- General Alarm Fire Waverly St. (4-11-05)
A wind-driven fire rips through a row of wood frame buildings in the notorious Nodine Hill section of the city. The stubborn, late-night fire destroyed three buildings and displaced 16 families.

  4.   New Rochelle- Fire and Ice (3-8-05)
The NRFD fought a multiple alarm fire in two downtown buildings in brutally cold temperatures and gale force winds at the end of a snowstorm. The Main St. fire burned throughout the night, a night the Fire Commissioner called the "worst night imaginable" for a fire.

  5.   April 7- Ossining and Irvington
Multiple alarm fires hit Irvington and Ossining within minutes of each other. Ossining firefighters, along with four mutual aid departments, operated at a garden apartment complex fire on Wolden Road. Four departments also assisted Irvington with a large dwelling fire on El Retiro Lane. Eight other departments provided mutual aid during these fires.

  6.   Hartsdale- Fatal House Fire (10-17-05)
An 86-year old woman was killed while trying to escape a fire in her home. Hartsdale firefighters arrived to find the Topland Road home fully involved and the victim just inside the front door.

  7.   Yonkers- Christmas Day
A dozen people were left homeless after a General Alarm fire on Burhans Ave. For the second consecutive year, a greater alarm structure fire in the county occurs on Christmas Day.

  8.    Tappan Zee Bridge Incidents
During a year when the debate over the future of the Tappan Zee Bridge was waged, the safety of the bridge was again brought into question. In February, one man was killed when his vehicle drove off the bridge and into the Hudson River. A horrific accident in September, involving a broken down vehicle and a tractor trailer, took the life of one man and badly burned another, who jumped off the bridge and into the Hudson to escape the fire.

  9.   Lake Mohegan- Firefighting gone to the dogs
Firefighters rescued dozens of puppies and kittens after a fire in a row of stores next to fire headquarters. A total of 48 puppies and kittens were removed from a pet store and treated by numerous EMS personnel after the job was called in by a passing 2266.

  10.   New Rochelle- Multiple Alarm Fire (8-27-05)
A 3,000 square-foot home in the historic Rochelle Park section of the city was destroyed and 10 left homeless. New Rochelle firefighters arrived just after 1 a.m. on The Serpentine to find the 100-year old home fully involved.
